ABORTION

 

 

I have been raised in patrimonial society where men are thought to be superior in comparison to women. I know so many parents who aborted their 3rd girl child till they got baby boy. I still remember my mom & grandma saying "wish u were a boy". My mom & my grandma feel insecure must of the time as my mom is only child of my grandma and my mom is blessed with two daughters no son.

 

Am thankful to my mom as she decided not to get pregnant after getting two daughters though she was not that satisfied to have me there . Now am 25 but still I hear that "wish you were a boy" thing

   Through this painting I just want to express pain of those girl infants who wished to see life of earth but ended their life inside dark womb.

This painting is lil symbolic where I have modified scissors that r used for abortions as scorpions & spider attacking womb in which that girl child is living and I have also displayed rain of medicines that r use for abortion. I have portrayed that womb in hands which shows that we do have choice to either save her or kill her that's all in our hand. At the right bottom of painting infant in blue can be seen in a peaceful state which I have symbolized as a male child who is always welcome to our society.
